because newer is not always better

This is the motto of the OldVersion.com site. It is a site that archives old versions of well known and widely used software packages for the pupose of well... using them when you need a slicker, features stripped and smaller version of your favourite software. It happened to me when I recently bought this baby from a friend from the states that visited Romania a while ago. It was only 80$ so that was a bargain. My other baby needed it for reading electronic book for school in the confort of our bed. Right now I am prospecting for a desktop wireless pci card in order to link the Libretto to the Internet via our desktop computer. They come quite cheap but I hope that I don't get headaches while setting up the wireless network. The little computer behaves very nice so far. It runs Win98 se and it has sound and a whole set of pcmcia extensions. But I didn't get the media access something adaptor that converts the custom exit of the pcmcia lan card to a normal UTP port.
Well, wireless is always better ;)

the wolf has gone mad!

This is more like a romanian saying derived from a well known tv ad and originally in romanian it sounds like: "a innebunit lupu'!".
It was the first thing that popped into my coffee needing brain this morning when the news hit me: Google just launched "Google Talk beta" a new IM software and service that also supports audio calling.
I dont't know the inner workings but it seems to be very tolerant towards supporting other IM clients as a service. It communicates very well with gmail offcourse and the voice chats seem to use upto only 4K of bandwidth while the sound quality is very good!
Well it seems that there's nothing that others can do and these guys can't improve and release for free. So far it's "thumb's up Google!" but from somewhere deep into my primordial fears the Vader Star Wars theme begins to sound even louder.
[Taaa taaa taaa taa taraaaaaa ...]

moom, where's my Rubberduck!?

A long time ago there was a cool company in the Netherlands with a duck's name. Rubberduck software. They released a nice piece of software with a nice aqua like interface that would magically transform your flash movies into full featured windows applications. And the best marketing slogan was that they used it in the making of another great software. That great software was itself. And they called it Screenweaver. Then it fell asleep.
After that we had mProjector, Zinc, SwfStudio, flashJester and others. All these were little babies when Screenweaver roamed the flash world. Or they weren't at all.
Today is a good day for flash as Dexter would put it.
The owner of the Screenweaver code, Edwin VanRijkom teamed up with Darron Schall to get Screenwearver 3 to OSFlash.
Man this is cool!
I've originally worked with Screenweaver but gave it up because the lack of community support in favor of mProjector. But I foresee that the great OSFlash momentum will get Screenweaver so far in so little time that we won't be able to keep up. Especially Darron was waiting for this thing to boost his efforts.
I say no more because probably while writing this post a bunch of other great things happened in the OSFlash world.
The human readable story is here at Jesse's. For the flash addicts I recommend Darron's post.

moveTo()

I am back from a short 1 week holyday.
Where did I spend my well deserved recreation time you ask?
Well I moved to a new apartment.
I never knew that me and Carmen (my better half :) managed to gather so much stuff in just one year of living together. Bags of clothes, washing machine, tv, microwave, kitchen stuff. Man it was a hard week I tell you. And the new apartment needed cleaning. It's Romania after all and you can ask around 200 EU/month for a dump. It wasn't my best vacation ever that's for shure. On Monday at work I was so tired that I was actually happy to be able to sit down and use only my finger tips to do the work...

Well I am looking forward to the winter holydays :D
I hope you had a better time than me this summer and I wish you all a happy new working year :P

cheers
