Wikipedia definition: a drug belonging to the group of beta blockers...
Now don't get me wrong. I have nothing in particular against any of the numerous beta mushrooms that invaded us in the last year. However, I do have something against using a service that is perpetually in beta and feeling like I'll never get rid of this lab rat state.
We have flash blockers, javascript blockers, popup blockers, spam blockers, contact blockers. So why not beta blockers?
Wouldn't it be nice to have an option in the browser that flashes a red alert message whenever we land on a page with a register form for some beta web app that needs us more than we need it?
A while ago I stumbled upon a page that had such a collection of beta apps currently on the web. I can't find it any more so if anyone has it in bookmarked please send me the link. Hehe, just remembered about del.icio.us. They had the answer: The MoMB (Museum of Modern Betas). Yep, this is a good start.
However there are some apps that prove themselves useful again and again. One of them is not even a beta. It is still an alpha. But boy, wouldn't some of the crappy betas like to be an alpha like this one. They named it Meebo and it's mindblowing. Especially if you have a "no IM policy" in your company ;)
